Thorvaldsens Museum opened in 1848 and became the first public museum in Denmark. The distinctive building was built to exhibit Thorvaldsen's extensive oeuvre of sculptures and looks almost the same as when the museum opened over 150 years ago. The museum contains, in addition to the sculptures, Thorvaldsen’s drawings and sketches for the sculptures and reliefs. Thorvaldsens Museum is a historical building and landmark in Copenhagen.
